LAB vs LUV Colors Test

A DEV 0.98 SERIES EXPERIMENT

For the Luv of Lab

Below there are several dynamically created color lists, available with different sortings. The first group is a series of LAB LUV comparisons, which demonstrate why LUV is a better colorspace for LCh for use with displays.

All colors were generated using the standard D65 reference white, and the standard sRGB colorspace.

This is part of the Myndex Perception Research program. Also see the APCA Contrast Calculator. For comments or to report issues, please visit us on GitHub.

MONITOR ADJUSTMENT AFFECTS PERCEIVED CONTRAST

sRGB gamma target. Adjust the monitor so that the square appears uniform (i.e. not pyramids). Note also it is important that the image be at 100% and not scaled - make sure your browser says "actual size". If the square "looks like a pyramid" that indicates your monitor is not calibrated to the sRGB transfer curve (sometimes called gamma).
